Being a very organic material, the process of building with Bamboo is a lot about listening to and understanding the material, an equally humbling experience. In this piece, I explored the strength, flexibility and tensile strength of the material.

For the Base, I used a lathed (for uniform radii) member. For the Seat, I have interwoven strips of bent bamboo, which due to Bamboo’s tensile strength, provide a bounce when sat on. In addition, the interweave and Bamboo’s flexibility enable the seat to open up and fit the person seated on it ergonomically.
