Bascule.

Deriving Furniture from Culture

4 week duration,2020

Guided by: Sweety Taur

Roles: Furniture Design, Research, Modelling, Material and Finishes, Joineries and Prototyping

Bascule was a concept that I derived in my ‘Culture in Furniture’ module. Culture to me relates to the collective beliefs and lifestyles of a group of people. So, to ease the process and relate to a given Culture I created a persona which responds to it. The persona I created was one of a university going student who loves video games, pop-culture (especially in terms of fashion and music) and a social lifestyle.

Bascule is meant to be used whilst one uses their laptops at their hostel rooms or residences, essentially for light work or for leisure. The rocker portion of the chair was angled for the chair to assume two positions. One, where a seated person can lean forward for more concentrated work, and the other a more relaxed position. The chair was constructed in teak wood and upholstery proposed is sort of a Canvas - Corset format to imitate a Converse shoe
